Today at Mobile World Congress 2014 press conference – Nokia CEO Stepn Elop introduces a brand new Nokia X family, a range of handsets that combines Nokia design, build quality and services with the ability to run Android apps.
The Nokia X and X+ are low-cost Android phones, running a forked version of the open source operating system. You won’t be getting apps from the Google Play store, but instead from Nokia’s own “Nokia Store” and other locations.
The X family boasts Nokia’s exciting, high quality hardware design and a range of bright colours. The brand new, tile-based Home screen offers you a simple, elegant way to manage your apps and phone functions and also reintroduces a redesigned version of the enormously popular Fastlane notifications centre – a second Home screen if you like – from the latest Asha devices.
The first three phones in the family – the Nokia X, X+ and XL – are priced between the existing Asha and Lumia lines, at €89, €99 and €109 respectively, to appeal to new smartphone users looking for popular apps and their first cloud services.
On board you’ll find OneDrive, Skype, Outlook.com, HERE Maps, Nokia Mix Radio and more. Apps can be sideloaded through a storage card. The phones will be available in over 60 markets on 160 different operators. The Nokia X and X+ are meant to drive users to Microsoft’s services.
